jazz house includes new living areas to an existing Californian bungalow and studio on a corner site. The brief included new primary living spaces, a desire to increase natural light and new laundry and bathroom interiors. The proposal connects the existing house to the studio through a slender but generously proportioned addition that is articulated with deep window reveals and an external sitting area off main dining spaces. The proportions of the extension are carefully considered to minimise overshadowing of the garden as well as maintaining a generous garden area off main living spaces.   

The proposed masonry construction aligns with the existing house but has moments of lightness through the use of timber cladding and glazed areas. Interior materials include exposed timber ceilings and white painted brickwork which serves to brighten the living spaces without compromising on warmth.
